Sorry - I find the data confusing. You say that RA serial IP is 192.168.55.2/30 so that makes RB serial IP 192.168.55.1/30. These are the 2 usable IP addresses in the 192.168.55.0/30 subnet.

Is there a serial link between RB and RC?

For the 7 hosts on RA, you need to borrow 4 bits to have upto 14 usable IP addresses. I'd say that the 192.168.55.29/28 address is in the correct range (the 192.168.55.16/28 to 192.168.55.31/28 block).

For the 90 hosts on RB, you need to borrow 1 bit to have 126 usable IP addresses (hopefully, ip subnet-zero is configured correctly). I'd say that the 192.168.55.132/25 address is in the correct range (the 192.168.55.128/25 to 192.168.55.255/25 block).

For the 23 hosts on RC, you need to borrow 3 bits to have upto 30 usable IP addresses. I'd say that 192.168.55.57/27 is in the correct range (the 192.168.55.32/27 to 192.168.55.63/27 block).

That's the way that I figure it. It's a while since I've done any of this so I might just be talking out of my rear end!
Well...our KB is phpBB 3.0....the wandering turtle is phpBB 3.0.2...

so the only one that's not is TAZForum...2.0.22...and it is just on the edge of needing 2 upgrades...if we were one version less 2.0.21 we'd need to upgrade twice from 2.0.21 to 2.0.23 and then convert to phpBB 3...

Quote:

You would need to update your database to 2.0.23 before converting to phpBB3.

this is the urgency I mentioned before...if phpBB ever gets to 4x we may end up so far behind that we may need to do several upgrades just to catch up...

and outer's working on it

Just an idea...if we could print off a few of these and place them around the places we go ( no one has to see ya do it )...

eg, schools, laundry mats, car windows, bars, clubs, shopping centers, etc...wherever you can stick one up...anywhere where there's a significant amount of traffic...

Hey guys,

Kinda curious as to why you think it's a strange survey? Especially since that's contrary to most of the comments / feedback I've gotten so far (although on person questioned if it was my first DoS survey, and another asked why an operating system was a vulnerability).

My primary reason for the survey surrounds the fact that many vendors (including Microsoft) have taken to not patching Denial of Service issues in security updates and tend to leave them for service pack releases because they call them stability issues or bugs, rather than security issues.

I for one,and a number of people (based on the results so far), disagree with this.. and feel that denial of service is a security issue...

The results, along with dialog from various vendors (I've contacted 6, one has opened communication, the other 5 are silent), will be the basis of an eventual white paper / presentation.

But, enough on that... I'm curious as to why you found it strange...
Subject: Quick question about VLSM's
Posted: Tue Aug 19, 2008 8:46 pm (GMT 1)

Well, more of a question about an example I'm looking at. Here's the example...

There are 3 routers (A, B and C). Between Router A and B there's a serial link. The IP for the serial link on RA is 192.168.55.2/30. Than each of the routers has a fast ethernet port. For RA you have 7 hosts, for RB you have 90 hosts and for RC you have 23 hosts. Simply put you have to find the IP's/subnets for the 4 different interfaces and you have these 6 IP's/subnets to choose from.

192.168.55.57/27
192.168.55.29/28
192.168.55.1/30
192.168.55.132/25
192.168.55.0/30
192.168.55.127/26

Now my question doesn't involve the answer as to which IP goes to which interface, I already know that. My question is about the IP's provided, since they're supposed to be the IP's for the router interface. Before this example it was basically pounded in my head that you HAVE to start the subnet based on the block size (all examples before this one do so). But just looking at some of the IP's they don't look correct. Like 192.168.55.132/25 on the fast ethernet for RB should be 192.168.55.129/25 and 192.168.55.29/28 should be 192.168.55.17/28 shouldn't they? Or am I just being stupid and missing something (it happens)?

Navigate to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

If there is a DWoRD Value such "NoDispScrSavPage" with a data value of 1 this will disable the screen saver tab. Change the value to 0 or delete it to
see the tab again.
i see that you have the screensaver tab but see if there is anything else that looks like it is for the other tabs

(credit to aceisaneight @ computing.net)

gives you control of the screen saver again
In this instance a generic Trojan was also installed.
One of the most feared colors in the NT world is blue. The infamous Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) will pop up on an NT system whenever something has gone terribly wrong. Bluescreen is a screen saver that not only authentically mimics a BSOD, but will simulate startup screens seen during a system boot.

On NT 4.0 installations it simulates chkdsk of disk drives with errors!
On Win2K and Windows 9x it presents the Win2K startup splash screen, complete with rotating progress band and progress control updates!
On Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 it present the XP/Server 2003 startup splash screen with progress bar!

Bluescreen cycles between different Blue Screens and simulated boots every 15 seconds or so. Virtually all the information shown on Bluescreen's BSOD and system start screen is obtained from your system configuration - its accuracy will fool even advanced NT developers. For example, the NT build number, processor revision, loaded drivers and addresses, disk drive characteristics, and memory size are all taken from the system Bluescreen is running on.

Use Bluescreen to amaze your friends and scare your enemies!

Bluescreen runs on Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and Windows 9x (it requires DirectX).

Installation and Use
Note: before you can run Bluescreen on Windows 9x, you must copy \winnt\system32\ntoskrnl.exe from a Windows 2000 system to your \Windows directory. Simply copy Sysinternals BLUESCRN.SCR to your \system32 directory if on Windows NT/2K, or \Windows\System directory if on Windows 9x. Right click on the desktop to bring up the Display settings dialog and then select the "Screen Saver" tab. Use the pull down list to find "Sysinternals Bluescreen" and apply it as your new screen saver. Select the "Settings" button to enable fake disk activity, which adds an extra touch of realism!

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-ca/sysinternals/bb897558.aspx

file is sysinternalsbluescreen.scr in system32
When the BSOD appears, All I have to do is press the any key (or mouse) and the desktop reappears.

The really cool thing is if the stop error is displayed long enough at the bottom the words "Restarting windows" is displayed and the the thing reboots.

Now that's cool. But I got to figure out how to remove it.
_________________
Nothing to see here: Except

How do you know its a screen saver???

You should have a stop error in the system log if it is a BSOD.

at the end of the top string of the BSOD will be a file name pointing to the file that caused the exception...what is that or is it random??

Subject: This one's cool

Compaq laptop not that old. has the designed for vista, but has xp media installed.

Now if you let the thing sit long enough a BSOD 7F stop error presents it's self. HOWEVER It is not a BSOD it is a screen saver I think.

right clicking the desktop - > properties does not give screen saver options and under docs and settings the user profiles are missing.

I mean that there are four local users and only the default user is listed in the file list

Anyone seen this before, I'm a little too hungover and tired from camping to google and use my brain.

Thanks
_________________
Nothing to see here: Except

THE HILLBILLY VASECTOMY

After their 11th child, an Alabama couple decided that was enough, as they could not afford a larger bed. So the husband went to his veterinarian and told him that he and his cousin didn't want to have any more children.

The doctor told him that there was a procedure called a vasectomy that could fix the problem but that it was expensive. A less costly alternative said the doctor, 'is to go home, get a cherry bomb, (fireworks are legal in Alabama) light it, put it in a beer can, then hold the can up to your ear and count to 10.'

The Alabamian said to the doctor, 'I may not be the smartest tool in the shed, but I don't see how putting a cherry bomb in a beer can next to my ear is going to help me'Trust me, said the doctor.

So the man went home, lit a cherry bomb and put it in a beer can. He held the can up to his ear and began to count!

1………………2………………..3………………..4…………………5………………..5 1/2……………………………. At which point he paused, placed the beer can between his legs and continued counting on his other hand.

(This procedure also works in Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, Georgia, Mississippi, Missouri, Florida, West Virginia, and
Washington DC.)

This test only has one question, but it's a very important one. By giving an honest answer, you will discover where you stand morally.

The test features an unlikely, completely fictional situation in which you will have to make a decision.

Remember that your answer needs to be honest, yet spontaneous.

Please scroll down slowly and give due consideration to each line.

THE SITUATION:

You are in England , York to be specific.

There is chaos all around you caused by a hurricane with severe flooding.

This is a flood of biblical proportions.

You are a photo-journalist working for a major newspaper, and you're caught in the middle of this epic disaster. The situation is nearly hopeless.

You're trying to shoot career-making photos.

There are houses and people swirling around you, some disappearing into the water.

Nature is unleashing all of its destructive fury.

THE TEST:

Suddenly, you see a man in the water.

He is fighting for his life, trying not to be taken down with the debris.

You move closer... Somehow, the man looks familiar...

You suddenly realize who it is... It's Gordon Brown! You notice that the raging waters are about to take him under forever. You have two options:

You can save the life of Gordon Brown or you can shoot a dramatic Pulitzer Prize winning photo, documenting the death of one of the country's most powerful men!

THE QUESTION:

Here's the question, and please give an honest answer...

Would you select high contrast colour film, or would you go with the classic simplicity of black and white?
_________________
"Man will never be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest."
- Denis Diderot (1713-1784)
