Actually I do...did a lot of work with ROM 2.4b6 (all written in C maintained last by some guy named Russ Taylor).
Started initially with a mud called Sanctuary back in 1991, 50 levels, no color, straight up combat. Got ganked as soon as I created my character by some pimped out level 6. Course, the guy first guy I created, I didn't know dick about what to do so he was a warrior with no third attack or bash...god he sucked rofl.
Man, in just a few weeks after remaking, I started really getting into it. Killing when I could, running like mad when I was being hunted. I knew the whole city of Midgaard, New Thalos, drow city, old Thalos, chains of Naris...it's so sad to this day I can still tell you from midgaard healer 3south 17east led you to New Thalos, 2east, 2south, east, open down, down and you're in the underground of New Thalos.
Chains of Naris...great place to go because the Grand Knight was up there and he had all the silvery armor which added +2 to every stat and the mansion he guarded had rooms that could only hold two people per...I still remember being around 30 and this level 50 mage pushes me into one of the rooms and next I know I'm looking at the mage Windrose, the biggest baddest ass kicking mage on the server and I'm just thinking "damn I'm dead"...but no, he just wanted to talk and ended up giving me a buncha shit. God I miss Sanctuary...
Fast forward to Turning Wheel, a Wheel of Time mud created by a friend of mine, Don. That's where I originally wrote my first few areas. The mud never really went anywhere, it was more fun for us all.
Enter Anime, a mud created by a good friend of mine and it was different in the aspect that it was 90 levels for mortals, level 100 was the highest for an implementor. He handed it over to his brother who wrecked it on a consistent basis. I was just a level 90 dark elf ninja with customized armor and weaponry since all I did was run around killing people left right up down, chasing them down until they had nothing left (definitely not the same as when I was on Sanctuary). I finally died when I went after this one demon named Plok...man we were ALL OVER the place and I was beating his ass in but he called a friend of his irl Shoruken who logged in and started banging on me. Sure I died and even wrote an RP death note. Now keeping in mind these are guys I hated, they hated me, etc. I'm sitting in Kate's cafe just healing and they come in and start trading my equipment back and forth, kinda like taunting but we got to talking for once and in the end they gave me all my equipment back. Pretty cool.
It wasn't too long before myself and Suzuran (Daniel) took over Anime and did a lot fixes and do I mean a LOT. Did tons of work on Anime over the next 3 years.
I'd love to get back into creating a mud of my own again like I did with a mud I called 5k (for the port) but from then till now, gcc somehow got real picky with some of the code and I just didn't feel like finding every line and changing it. Course, now, there's plenty of muds done in C++.
In the world of protection, one thing is for sure: security = 1 / convenience.
I never got into playing MUDs...
I didn't like the all text based stuff, maybe because I tried playing them after playing modern games that have graphics and everything (Final Fantasy, Guild Wars, WoW, Diablo, etc)
Programming one though... Thats different, I like coding stuff

If anyone's interested I admin an old school LPC MUD called Blood Rose. It's still in development, but we're looking for coders. We've got a pretty well developed world map that we're working off of, and have a lot of ideas as to how we want to structure things, but we're lacking time and expertise in a lot of areas, so implementation is slow so far. PM me if you're interested in checking it out, I'll give you the 411.
