OK, went and bought The Shining and got it home...then, I realized it wasn't the original version with Jack Nicholson...but the 1997 made for TV mini-series...
my first reaction was ' oh, great ' ( because I generally hate made for TV movies ) but then I did a little Googlin' and as it turns out according to IMDB ( I think I got that right ) and some reviews I read, the TV version is actually truer to the book than the movie movie...and has, according to the reviews, more of the book in it. Even Stephen King prefers the TV version, and apparently didn't like the movie adaptation of his book.
The general consensus was :
the TV version should greatly appeal to the book lovers
and the Movie version should appeal to the fans of the horror/suspense genre
haven't seen it yet, might put it on tonight if I get the time...but I get the sense no matter how good it might be, or true to the book, I doubt Steven Weber will give it the spark Jack did in the movie.
