Tough Question kid...

At my little hotel the owner's kids have been feeding a feral cat and her two freshly-weaned kittens. The kids have delighted in watching them grow and hunt field mice in the vacant lot next door, play, and do other things young cats do.

Today something got ahold of one of the kittens and it died. It was discovered by the kids when they went out to feed them. Grandpa disposed of the corpse, but I got stuck with the hard questions...

The owner's daughter, a very precocious young lady of 7, asked me what happens to kittens after they die, will they wake up?

Now, being the good adult I am, I know about telling kids about "kitty heaven" in such circumstances - but this is different. This is my boss's daughter, who is Hindi.

It broke my heart to have to tell her that she needed to ask that question of her Mother or Father, and that I couldn't answer it for them since my beliefs were a bit different from theirs.

So now the question I pose to you all today is:

In Hinduism, what happens to kittens when they die?

What about Bhuddism? Islam?

In ancient Egypt, Bubastis would've tended the cat, it being her minion. I'm unsure on ancient Roman, Greek, Norse, or Celtic religions though. Anyone have a clue?

I'm gonna get shot for this but

FInger puppets?

To be fair this is from my mother. A very warm but also pragmatic woman
who made this observation after I had gotten over the death of one of my first cats at about 13

And in her defense she had waited until I was over most of the grieving....
t was funny and helped me see the other side of death.

Hindi believe in reincarnation, so tell her the kitten will reincarnate into a tiger or something :good:

Sir Dice has it right. For a Hindi, the cat would be reincarnated into something greater than a cat had it been a model cat. Otherwise, it would stay a cat or move down lower on the food chain until it learned certain existential lessons.

Muslism don't differ greatly from other monothiests. Animals die and that is all. They have no souls and are mere devices of man.
