Debate Topic: Religion's value to the growth of societies

Regardless of how anyone ‘ feels ‘ about religion…and I’ve said this before…it played a vital part in the development and organization of tribes, groups, and societies…

it’s quite possible that we would not have evolved in the same manner if not for religion…

even philosophy did not have the social impact that religion has had…even during the heyday of philosophy Greece and Rome were still primarily religious societies…

most of the major civil rights actions and advancements throughout history have been fostered by religion and religious people ( eg. Martin Luther King Jr. , etc… )…

yes, religion has also caused the most problems…however…

we cannot disregard the value religion has played in our development simply because we may view it as archaic and Neanderthal now…

those who understand evolution should be the first to understand that that is the way we develop…that we are naturally evolving to no longer needing religion as it serves less of a purpose…

we will never completely get rid of religion…there will always be those who will use it, and those who will abuse it…but…as we evolve we will become ‘ naturally ‘ less dependent upon it…

saying ‘ why are these people so stupid ‘ shows a complete lack of understanding of how we evolve as a society and the role that religion has played in that development.
