Is the Internet becoming a waste dump?

Postby Egaladeist » Tue Jun 08, 2010 12:39 pm

I would estimate that, at the very least, 60% of the Internet is garbage sites...sites ( websites, forums, blogs, etc... )that haven't been updated for months/years, that exist only as Internet clutter...like space junk floating around endlessly without purpose.

Should the Internet clean out it's cache once in awhile and eliminate it's trash bin?

Nah, sometimes it's one persons trash is another person's treasure.

But wouldn't it essentially have a positive effect like cleaning the trash, temp files, etc from your computer?

No. The internet is practically the last place left where speech is almost free. That means taking the good with the bad. Besides, even if you wanted to, there is no (legal) way of taking down any site that isn't breaking the law.

Besides, some of the trash serves a purpose. It can be fun to bait the owners of the trash sites.
