Here goes nothing...

Postby Vorlin » Sat Apr 04, 2009 10:44 pm

So I decided, along with a friend of mine up in Missouri, to make some changes....aka, he's gotten off Fedora Core and went FreeBSD and what I'm doing is leaving VectorLinux (which is great btw) and giving OpenBSD a shot. Keeping in mind, I've not installed/used *BSD in about 5+ years so this should be interesting.

Without further ado, this upcoming install will provide lots of information undoubtedly. We're doing this simply because we want to see what *BSD has all to offer and going to be writing up tutorials on things as we work around issues, write new stuff, etc...

My unix friends think we're both crazy and we probably are, but hey, ./pray ftw!

If I'm not back in an hour, wait longer,...

It's ALIVE!!!!! *thunder and lightning abound at the frankenstein castle* It's ALIIIIIVE!!!!

First attempt for some reason, when I got into my first login, it worked fine and was great...then I did an update and rebooted and SOMEHOW FOR SOME GOD AWFUL MOTHERF*($&))*(#&$%)$% REASON PIECE OF *$&)*(&)#$(*)&#@$_(*#_$44, my MBR disappeared and the BSD loader was like "Um...you have no bootable partition" and I'm like wtf? So I get the install cd back in and get to "use existing partitions" (or whatever it is, my mind is blanked right now) and it's laughing at me because THERE ARE NO *(&)(*^)^^*^*_)(*_)&)(*&^(*%(&^%*& PARTITIONS AT ALL ANYMORE!!!!!!!

Don't even ask how many cuss words I said...my mom and dad actually left the house after I started throwing objects around and yes, I'm serious...

But, I have it all up and running now, yaaaayyyyyyy! Cheerlead for me!

--Vorlin....pumped up on OpenBSD now wheeeee!

OpenBSD is just a bit to spartan for me and it's ports collection is rather limited. IMO there's no real added benefit to this so-called more secure stuff that's in Open. Most of the really interesting stuff finds it way into Free anyway. Besides, OpenBSD performs like a snail on Valium... That's why I stick to Freebsd.
