Can't believe that New Yorkers that are made of sterner stuff would be so overly sensitive ...
Very uncool dude.

I dont know...I think I would be freaking seeing fighter jets and a large aircraft flying low over any urban area......specially after 9/11

And how would seeing fighter jets give you any sense that the situation is undercontrol.....shooting down a large plane over a populated area ...could cause widespread damge with all the fiery bits falling to the ground.

I agree it was totally uncool and inappropriate.

Ok, feel the need to clarify myself here.I worded that sentence wrong, what I should have said was, New Yorkers are made of sterner stuff, as is what is being written on a number of blogs, for the most part the majority of New Yorkers were not that concerned about it, apparently it was some office workers who panicked.

Now, having said that, what most people fail to realise here is that the Jet clearly displayed the Presidential Seal/logo on the tail of the Airplane, and most Americans I would assume would recognise that fact and would probably think nothing of it even with a military jet flying alongside of it...security/escort.

then the terrorists have accomplished their aims, striking terror into you.

Which is why I made the earlier statement, however you feel about it, there is some truth to it, most New Yorkers are upset that the Media has painted the whole city as a bunch of scaredy cats, I admired their resilience during and after 9/11 as they picked themselves up and got on with it...so to me the current rash of idiots running around screaming the sky is falling is an insult to those that went to the aid of those in the towers and to those that perished.

Yes the terrorists accomplished their goal...just look at the new security measures in place all over the world.

.and I dont think being aware of a possible threat is makes anyone a "scaredy cat"

Being aware of what threatens you is an innate means of survival.

It was incredibly stupid...I'm sorry Dalek but I think anyone working downtown NYC who peered out their window to see a plane and a fighter jet tailing it...would be well within their rights to be a little freaked ;)

they might even suppose that the fighter jet was aiming to shoot down the aircraft but was waiting for the opportune moment...the President Seal notwithstanding, it could still have been hijacked...if they even saw the seal...

the ' smart ' thing would have been to inform the local media of the ' photo op ' over the two weeks previous to ensure no one would be taken off guard...

this seeming;y attempt at ' shock and awe ' to impress people could have been disastrous. ;)

Christ, as I mentioned there is a big fecking Presidential Seal on the tail of the big plane, now maybe if your a new arrival, you may not know that, but the majority of the Americans I would assume actually know what the Air Force 1 looks like?

As for Photo ops, it's not opsec for the NSA to give out information of the planes whereabouts I am sure within 24 hrs notice, could have something to do with security reasons, maybe because if they tell the locals that on this date the Presidential plane will be conducting photo ops, well so Achmed hears that and calls his buddies and on that day and time while enjoying a barbecue on one of Manhatten numerous roof tops, fire off a nice surface to air missile..

As for the Presidents plane being hijacked, give me a break, you can't seriously believe that could actually happen do you Eg?

If it were hijacked, and yes it is possible. The plane would most certainly be blown out of the sky either by someone on the plane or by escorts, due to it's ability to run the nation from the sky and the secrets on board.
OUT! OUT! You demons of stupidity!!!!

I couldn't disagree more. This was a very poor move in all measures. In any case, let the right wing be hypocrites for criticizing Obama. He's not doing anything Bush didn't do thus far.

While Obama may be doing the same crap Bush did, my problem with Obama is he was supposed to be all about :pleasantry: change... Wheres the change?!
The national "debt day" came early this year... His bailout and stimulus plans are outspending Bush as we dig further and further into debt

Oh I'm not saying I like Obama, or that he is dissmissed because Bush did it first. The Bush Administration was woeful, but only set the stage for the amount of liberty and wealth we are about to lose--to thunderous applause no less.

I don't think it's impossible, perhaps not probable, but certainly not impossible. If you had asked a NYer before 9/11 if a 9/11 could happen you'd likely get an astounding no...or from some you might get ' I don't think it's impossible, perhaps not probable, but certainly not impossible ' ;)

Could Airforce One get hijacked? Well...it's just about as likely as the Twin Towers being taken down by a passenger airplane ;)

I'd have to agree with Eg's comment. Air Farce 1 most definitely is next to impossible to be hijacked but I put the probability of that happening right along with passenger jets being used to take down the WTC towers, something nobody prior thought was ever possible, plausible, etc...and a group of arabs went and did it. Too bad we couldn't drop a nuke on their homeland countries for every person killed.
In the world of protection, one thing is for sure: security = 1 / convenience.
