Yep, here's the biggest and most obvious oops so far courtesy of the Obama administration:

Air Force One Photo Op Triggers Panic in Manhattan

It seems the United States' number one airplane took a detour and did a low-altitude flyover of ground zero in NYC for a photo-op. As if this wasn't bad enough, one of it's two fighter jet escorts followed nearby, and as you can see in the pictures and video of it, it looks very much like another terrorist attack, and in fact caused widespread panic throughout NYC. Oops.

Gawd...what could have possessed them to think that flying low over NYC would be a good idea?

They're lucky no one thought of putting anti-aircraft missiles on the rooftops to prevent another 9/ that would have been a photo-op.

Are you kidding me? It's the United States Government! You know the ones that put a Macgyver fan in charge of home land security.

(you know all Macgyver needs to blow up an airplane is duct tape, contact solution and bubble gum) Currently bubble gum is not banned on aircraft.

Maybe not the best source of news but slashdot said it was a 747 that's used as an Airforce One Backup...
"A Boeing 747 that serves as an Air Force One backup and two F-16 fighters escorting it caused a brief panic among office workers at the World Financial Center in lower Manhattan this morning, as large numbers evacuated the buildings. The incident was also spurred evacuations in Jersey City across the Hudson River from Manhattan." ... 27/1845220

If something like this generates this much panic, the terrorists have already won

Well, according to the news channel droning on in the background, the DoD has admitted that it would've been a good idea to have alerted the public to the flyover prior to actually doing it.

So today our government acknowledged that AVOIDING WIDESPREAD PANIC is a good idea.

I wonder how many lawsuits are going to ensue from this one unbelievably stupid act?

And yah, Dice, it was the backup jet - either of which can be 'Air Force One' only when the President is aboard, otherwise they're just regular military flights.

To the credit of the citizenry - I promise ya that if I saw a 747 flying eratically and being "chased" by an F-16, I'd bloody well get the hell out of there too, even if it wasn't in NYC.

flyover of ground zero in NYC for a photo-op.
I wonder how much this stunt cost the taxpayers.

I guess they never heard of photoshop.

From my experience....governments have never really been the sharpest knives in the drawer.

All for a photo Op...come on....there is something not right about that.

More like lets see how fast those F16s can intercept

Oh it's hilarious - the pic on the front page of today's Podunk newspaper makes it look like poor AF1 is being actively engaged and pursued by the F16's which were, in reality, protecting it (AF1 is always escorted by fighters, even if El Presidente Socialista isn't aboard).

Man, people are still wound up pretty tight, can't blame them, but then it doesn't say much for their trust in being protected enough to never see this happen again....

(course the laid back folks in the bronx were probably taking advantage of so many empty homes....Lol) :pleasantry:

Yeah, but even if it wasn't escorted. That plane can take care of itself. :cool3:

If I were any of the pilots on those planes involved, I'd have gone against those orders...because guess what, sure, it might cost me a career, but then again, look at what it's costing them now?! And we're not talking some unmarked faster-than-sound B2 stealth bomber or a the SR-71 going at some fucking ridiculous speed like, oh I dunno, 1900 knots per hour? Shit like this just makes the US government, which already is a fucking joke and a half, looks worse. More and more each day, I can't wait to move...

Lol...I bet if Bush was still president, some of the responses would be like:

Well they were probably testing the current communications and rapid response drills and that Dubya knows all too well that the good folks in New York has his best interests at heart.....Lol.....spare me

First off, the pilots on the jets are most likely weekend warriors (National Guard) so not much of a career there, secondly any pilot who receives a request from the people at the Whitehouse are going to jump through hoops to be selected (called a career move/sucking up/brown nosing you name it, it's an opportunity to get your name in the books...Lol)

Regardless, I believe because it's Obama in the Whitehouse, the right wing nut jobs are pouncing on anything he does or doesn't do...Christ, he still hasn't gone to war with anyone so chill out ffs...

(not belittling the 9/11 event in anyway whatsoever, so keep your pistols in the safe position) :pleasantry:

Edited: For being uncool and insensitive.....Political Correctness has won the day... :good:
