Classes! Education! Yay!

Postby Vorlin » Mon May 11, 2009 12:37 pm

So here it is, 7:30 in the morning on Monday and it's day 1 of the summer semester here at Aiken Technical College. I'm sitting here all alone in my english composition class eating breakfast (while gazing at the "Absolutely no food or drink in the lab" sign right in front of me).

This semester, I have English Comp, Programming Logic & Design, Digital Animation, and Algebra, and let me tell you what...all those high school b*tches are going to get destroyed. I had 4 As and 1 B last semester so I'm still remaining pumped up about this. Annnnddddd, considering it's day 1, I figured I'd dress for the occasion and I'm all decked out in my jungle neo-vietnamese camouflage outfit, gortex jacket and all...even cut my hair super short!

Bring it on, you pansy-ass "honors graduate" p*ssies...welcome to the suck.

Cool news is, I met a pretty cool chick in line waiting for paying my registration and such...her name's Ruth and gave her my number...she called the next day and we talked for about 3 hours. Wewt ftw.

I actually really like it...it's a big change from when I was in high school in 1990-1994 and didn't give a shit about anything I was learning that I thought didn't apply to what I wanted to do as a career (computers). Now, at 33, I really have an opportunity to finish what I should've done 12 or so years ago. I asked dad on the way over here if my sister graduated from college with honors and he said no so I'm making it my life goal for the moment to graduate with honors :D ... not to mention, learning is pretty fun (in my opinion) once you get past the mentality of "Oh I don't like this", etc. That, and, well, I don't have a girlfriend right now so that doesn't keep my time tied up, hah!

Hah! I'd consider myself very lucky to even get a date with her (or any other girl I talk to for that matter)...the female line hasn't been doing anything for a long time but right now, I'm not even concerned with that...I just want that 3.8+ GPA.

Well, I'm glad you're enthusiastic at least. I just finished the most brutal semester of BioChem EVER. It would have been more managable had we not lost 2 people in my department at the hospital. 15 credits BioChem + 50 hours/work week = lots of drinking. Seriously, I have only been sober about 30-40% of the time when I'm doing homework, lol.

It's all over as of this week though. The semester is DONE! Huzzah!

Ah I remember biochem. Made my brain hurt but not as much as neuropsychopharmacology.

Now I just shout at people in the street

I always had the most trouble with thermodynamics. Biochem was a piece of cake :D

I found some of my old essays from Uni a couple of years ago. I can't understand them anymore. And they weren't even from my honors year, they were the easy ones :(

Thermochem, electrochem, biochem, these things aren't very difficult for me. Where I get killed is in the tangental Math cirricula. I am AWFUL at algebra outside of a chemistry context. I ask too many questions, and cannot bring myself to blindly follow without a known goal of what I'm trying to accomplish. I need to take Calculus II as a prerequisit to a physics class and some capstone Biochem courses, but....ugh. It's going to hurt my GPA so bad.

I used to SUCK at Calculus when I had it in college. I guess I'm just not cut out to do things the way they're taught in textbooks and lectures. However, since I'm currently doing a PhD in mathematical biology, calculus suddenly became kinda important to learn. Once things had a biological meaning, I managed to pick up the basics in a few weeks though, so it's all good.

Cheers,

Is that like bioinformatics CG?

The math in science always threw me. Statistics
