Alumna sues college because she hasn't found a job

Postby SirDice » Tue Aug 04, 2009 2:30 pm

A recent college graduate is suing her alma mater for $72,000 -- the full cost of her tuition and then some -- because she cannot find a job.

Trina Thompson, 27, of the Bronx, graduated from New York's Monroe College in April with a bachelor of business administration degree in information technology.

On July 24, she filed suit against the college in Bronx Supreme Court, alleging that Monroe's "Office of Career Advancement did not help me with a full-time job placement. I am also suing them because of the stress I have been going through."

3 months out of college.. As if people with a business administration degree in IT are in such a high demand

Doesn't she know there's a recession going on?

Truly amazing, doesn't anyone know the meaning of the word "work" anymore... :angry1: I bet there are thousands of graduates with BS after their names working away in a Mac's somewhere on this planet...at least they are trying to work for a living...

This is the true meaning of a "Frivolous Lawsuit" and hopefully the judge will laugh his/her ass off and tell the plaintiff to get a life....Image

Frankly I'm amazed I've not heard word of suits like this before now. There are MANY colleges and universities here in the US that promise placement or placement assistance upon graduation. Most institutions were smart enough to include that naughty word 'assistance' in their catalogs, but those that didn't are wide open to lawsuits.

Since a school's course catalog constitutes a contract with the student, it's most definitely open to litigation if a college promises job placement and doesn't deliver. Hell, I'd sue on those grounds, and not just for lost tuition either...

I guess I find this whole thing rather stupid. But, then I'm a country boy from the Western US. We know what it takes to get by and TINSTASFL. It would never cross my mind to take that kind of action when my problems are directly due to my own shortcomings. You play the hand yer dealt and make the best of it. Sometimes a pair of deuces will win!

C'mon, she has a rather inflated opinion of herself. A 2.7 GPA? Google 2.7 GPA and you'll find that it is equivalent to a C average. Average. Not above average, not exceptional at all. Which boils down to, she wasn't working all that hard. And, somehow she thinks she is entitled to something?

If you want folks to be scrambling to hire you, you better work your hiney off and get better grades. If she had a 3.2 or 3.7 GPA, I might say she had a better than even chance of the suit going through. As it is, her chances are slim and none.

Hope the judge force feeds the filing papers back to her.

This is a perfect example of the attitude change in America that started in the 60's. Increasingly, people are more apt to blame someone else for their situation rather than take personal responsibility for their actions and their lives. In addition to this trend, people now expect the government to provide everything for them. JFK must be rolling in his grave.

It's just the white man keeping me down, no wait, it's the black man keeping me down, hold it - it's the chinese...

Aww hell, it's just the man keeping me down. Or maybe a woman.

I think I'll just blame whoever will listen. Oh and don't forget to donate to Obama's favorite charity in Lu of sending b-day presents. What's his favorite charity, you ask? GM

Nah, you really don't want to do that, MLF. You don't want that whiny cry-baby on your help desk. Next thing you know, user will have it nicknamed the "no-help" desk.

Isn't 'business administrator' more or less a glorified secretary?
