Yep, a very cool innovation in motorcycle helmets

http://www.izitso.net/2010/05/helmet-wi ... -back.html

now riders don't have to turn their heads to see what's comin' up behind them. Of course there's those rear view mirrors, but...why bother

They've been around for a couple of years now Eg. I do wonder how effective they would be on the road.

I'm surprised no one has built in a camera into the butt of a bike and a screen in front. Considering the costs have got so low these days for small LED screens.

Hmmm ... I don't know. There are enough distractions for a rider without having to have a "heads up" video in play, too.

I always figured, when I could no longer swivel enough to do shoulder checks, I'd be done as a rider. And, I don't really worry much about what's behind, since I'm generally increasing the distance between those objects and myself. I'm more concerned about those objects to my front, where I'm decreasing the distance between them and myself.

Nah, would not be on my shopping list.

Yup, I'm with you....

I want my vision in front of my completely clean.
My side view mirrors do a good enough job of letting me know if some asshole is somehow keeping up with me :P

I think it would be cool if it had a radar system like some of the Mercedes cars and simply linked to the helmet. Have a rear facing radar that when something approaches within range (say 10-15 feet), it turns a light on inside the helmet. A red LED wouldn't take up much room/sight picture, if any at all, and would warn you if somebody is too close.

The mirrors on my ZXR400 were essentially useless. Too small and too much vibration to actually see anything. I just used to hang off to one side so I could get a good clean look behind.

I think most sports bike mirrors are crap.

Here is a relevant development!

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/drivin ... 118373.ece
‘Skin’ helmet to protect brain
Acting out of concern for his son, a keen motorcyclist, Dr Ken Phillips set out to design a helmet that replicated the head’s natural defences. The skin’s ability to slip slightly over the skull normally moderates the sudden rotation of the head that typically leads to severe brain injuries even when the skull is protected from impact. Phillips’s design adds an artificial membrane to the exterior of a conventional helmet to mimic the slipping of human skin.

I've remove the duff post. I assume it's someone trying keyword loading or screwing with filter somehow.
