760-705-8888 Scam

Postby Egaladeist » Tue Jul 19, 2011 2:00 pm

Well I finally got a call from the infamous Google 760-705-8888 G-Mail number that everyone's complaining about. Some guy claiming to be from some Company saying my computer was hitting his companies servers and he wanted me to check my hard drive.

Seemed a bit odd right off the start.

I asked him one simple question, ' Where are your servers located? '
He replied ' Global '
I said I want a specific location.
He replied ' Global '
I told him that if he was going to be vague about where the servers are located I'm going to assume it's a scam or a con job and he needs to go ____k himself and stop calling me.

At first I didn't know what was going on, I never even heard of this free G-mail number until after the call and I checked it out.

Why would any legitimate Company be using a free Google G-mail number?

Apparently it's being used primarily by scammers and pranksters.

And apparently Google isn't doing anything about it.

I wonder what they want you to do?

Anyone took the bait just to see where it would lead?

I have no idea what they wanted beyond asking me to check my hard-drive...never got beyond that point. But did some checking afterwards and apparently a lot of people are getting scammed and pranked.

That sounds like the direction they were going to head if I had let them. ;)

I'd pretend to do everything while noting what they're doing. I really wonder what commands you're supposed to enter..

Should have spun them a line and got their IP address then started hammering them with Nessus on insane timing or Metasploit

My girlfriend just got called....they wanted to remote into her computer and fix things???

It was a guy with a heavy Indian accent named Peter Wayne

She was smart enough to say she has someone (me) that takes care of her computer.....and wasn't comfortable with their help.

I don't have the patience to play with these guys.
Has anyone passed the details to Anonymous or Lulzsec to let them do something useful.

I'd give them an RDP session to my FreeBSD machine and see how they'd struggle to figure out what the hell's going on :finger:

Make the following regkey edit > HKLM\software\microsoft\windowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon- from "Shell" to "iexplore -k"

This will start IE as the shell not explorer. Make sure the home page is set to blank.

Also make sure wireshark and nmap are running

Make sure firewall on both windows and router are off.

You should have all the information you need within 10 minutes

Have fun
