Withdrawal symptoms

I was fed up with my ADSL provider and wanted to change. Should have been a walk in the park. Should have been done in a day.

It wasn't :angry1:

Canceled the old one myself because I wanted to let them know the reason why. And after a few inquires decided what the new provider will be. I called a few of them and this was the only one that gave me a good feeling about the quality. This is however not the case. First order got canceled because the old provider hadn't disconnected me correctly. I had given them my email address and phone number, and did they contact me? Yes, they did. With a bloody cancellation. "No, sir, you're going to have to put in a new order." And we'll start a new waiting period, 3-5 weeks. New order placed. Turns out they made a typo in my username, could you correct that for me please? "No, sir, you're going to have to cancel and place a new order." WTF?!? Ok, new order (the third one), that got canceled too for reasons I still don't know. Forth order, is now canceled because apparently there's a signal on the line. "It could be something from the previous owners, sir". No, it bloody can't. When I bought this house I had to order a phone line because it didn't have any! So, there's no such thing as a "previous owner" of that phone line. Oh, and I should place a new order, again starting with 3-5 weeks.

I've been completely disconnected now for a week and I'm getting severe withdrawal symptoms. Every time I see something on TV and want to look up something.... Dammit. I can't. That new TV show looks nice, lets see if I can down... Ow, crap.

I do have an android phone with a dataplan but I ran out of my data-limit and I've been capped at 64Kbit. Opening my facebook page takes 5 bloody minutes. USB tethering with Android seems to be buggy as hell too. I can't even ping google most of the time and when I do get a response I get a RTT of 3-4 seconds. Yes, that's seconds, not milliseconds.

Gave up on the xDSL providers, they can't even get a simple order right. So I'm now in bed with my sworn enemy, the local cable provider. That's how desperate I've become :crying2:

That would have worked a few years ago when most were open or used WEP. Now they're all on WPA. Although I do believe some may still have the standard password on it, you can calculate it from the SSID

Went for internet and, while I was there anyway, digital TV. Internet is 60Mbit down and 6Mbit upstream. Digital TV has 110 channels plus 20 or so HD channels. I can stick a CI+ module in my TV so I don't need a separate box/decoder.

If things go as planned I should be hooked up again somewhere next week :galdancin:

It's about 3-4 times as much as I could possible get with ADSL (I'm maxing ADSL at 12-14Mbit). So that's a big bonus. The standard package had 30/3Mbit but 60/6Mbit was only 2,50 euro more expensive, kinda a no-brainer. And for a few euro more I can even get 120Mbit. But I've settled for 60, lets see how that works out before I shell out more cash for the 120Mbit

This is how it's supposed to go, ordered it the day before yesterday and I just got an email with a tracking number for the installation package :good:

ADSL just would not work for my household. Way too many devices hook to the Internet these days. Need bandwidth!

Also need more $$$.

I have 30/5 and its still not enought for my house. I got like 20 or so devices connected at any given time (mostly all the time). I was thinking hardware upgrade before spending an extra 30 bucks a month on 50/5. Any suggestions?

20 +
WTF ARE you :P
I thought I was badass, when I was running a file server for Taz and had a few other boxes up 24/7 but never went that far

hardware upgrade may be required anyway, but the initial 30$ is a lot cheaper as a fast fix, then get around to the upgrades
