yeah, I'll be watching my p's and q's while there. Don't want to tick off the constabulary.

Ally can practice on Tony when I get him back. Figure out what went wrong.

Hope this all turns out well, rapier.

Brazilians - very good people, loyal to their friends. To gain one's respect is to gain their absolute trust and loyalty. To violate their trust is to make an enemy for life. DO NOT Piss one off under any circumstances!

Hi rapier57,

I visited TAZ sometimes, never registered, and, for coincidence, I saw you on TV yesterday. I'm Brazilian and very shocked with what happened.

Unfortunately, this story had a sad close.

May God be with you.

Thank you all for your kind words and encouragement. Those TAZzers in Brasilia, I´m staying in the PheniciaBittar, across from the mall and near the TV tower.

Things didn´t go well. Sunday, when we arrived, we got the news that my son-in-law was found dead. This is a tragic story and one I will share a bit later, probably when I get home. It is complex and confusing for the family and I´m not looking forward to some of the hystionics I will face when I return. I should say, if I return. Dang hard to get tickets changed in the US this time of year. United Airlines, with full knowledge of the issue and why we want to come home escorting remains, they wanted $5,700 each additional to move our flights up.

I have found Brazil highly misunderstood from the US perspective. It is a wonderful country full of warm and kind people. In many ways, it puts the US to shame. The police are capable and professional, and the US Consular team is top drawer.

The women are some of the most beautiful, self-posessed I´ve ever met. And, they outnumber the men by quite a bit.

Laters, folks. Thanks, again, for the support.

The optimistic in me was waiting to hear some great news from you in your next post. I wish things turned out better for your son in law. Hopefully you can get back to the states soon to be with your daughter and family.

Thanks, AC, I can always use more prayers and they are greatly appreciated.

Ally, I can only wish you were closer. I´ll be in need of some therapy when I get back. But, then the therapist will require therapy afterward, so maybe this is a good thing for you.

My friend and I have been doing the investigative journalist routine since before we got here, and that is probably the main thing that has helped keep us sane after what we´ve had to see. We finally got a decent night´s sleep last night, and today we are going to witness the cremation of the remains. The local police will be getting a forensic image of Tony´s iBook, and then I have to carry it to the FBI in Seattle and let them do the same before I can crack it open. Jim and I are soooooo tempted to just turn it on. I´m a better professional than that, though.

A friend of my daughter worked with the Washington State University alumni group to set up a scholarship fund in Tony´s name. I don´t have the site URL right now, but you may be able to Google it. I´ll post it when I get home.

Again, thanks to the TAZ for the support!
