Hi Rapier,

i'm glad to know everything is going well here in Brasilia, i hope keep it that way until you go back to U.S and after that too.

Thanks for your words about my country, you should come back someday, in another circumstances of course.

Good Luck.

I hope I do get to come back to Brazil. I love the food and people.

We've taken Tony to the crematorium and will go back soon to pick up the ashes. The family in the US is trying to get flights rearranged so we can return Saturday or Sunday. My daughter hopes to play the sympathy card, but that hasn't worked yet. The US airlines seemed to have lost all compassion. I remember getting bumped to first class on a regular basis when traveling in uniform back during the Vietnam War. I've been poured off more planes than I can remember.

I'm currently in the US Embassy getting documents finished up for transporting Tony's remains home.

Thanks, Mav. The girls at home have given up trying to reschedule with United, at this point. We´re going to go with our original return tickets, which take us out of Brasilia Monday evening and put us into Seattle (via DC) at about noon on Tuesday. The total trip is about 22 hours, and we gain back our six hours from the flight down.

I knew this was going to be difficult to do over this particular stretch of days, with the US Thanksgiving in the middle of everything.

Jim and I are making do with souvenier shopping and looking around Brasilia. This is really a beautiful city and the people have just been the greatest. The market at the TV Tower is a wonderful experience, if you ever get to come down here. We have a whole other piece of checked luggage full of things to take back now. And, I don´t think we spent more than about 50 to 75 bucks each.

We are trying to turn some positives, here, and want to share that. I think I want to get Rossetta Stone for Portugese (BR) and learn the language, then start an import/export business. The handmade furniture, woven goods and art are incredible. This is the kind of quality and craftsmanship you used to get in the US, but not anymore, even in the better stores. You should see some of the beautiful solid mahogany computer desks and other furniture!

Tonight, we are supposed to go with our interpreter to a nice bar out near the lake. Last night we went to a place and met a bunch of her friends. One was a veterinarian who works with horses and lives in Rio. Another works for the Brasilia federal district.

Good beer, lots of fun and they even liked some of my jokes.

Yeah, I´m off the wagon a bit. But they doñ´t have non-alcohol beer here. Oh, well. I´ll climb back on when I get home.

Again, thanks for all the good thoughts and encouragements.

Jim and I spent the better part of the day walking down the mall in Brasilia, getting a tour of the ministries and the National Congress. Some of the buildings were closed, but we got to go in the Foreign Ministry palace and the National Congress building. Very progressive democracy, from the looks of things.

Those of you in IT/IS would be very impressed with the way the Senators and Deputies are wired in and have direct access to voting, use of biometrics and all. The fact that the system is reliable and depended on to provide quick and accurate voting on bills and resolutions is inspiring.

So, on the way back, we were just about to the National Theater and the Brazilian rainy season showed us just what a real gully-washer is. We were completely soaked to the skin on one side, and dry on the other by the time we got under cover.

If I get a chance, I´ll check in before we leave tomorrow. We have most of the day, but there will probably be some things we have to do.

Thanks for the support, TAZ´ers. I really mean it. It is great to read your notes and responses and it meant a lot to know you cared.

Nice to hear that you've managed to bring out some positives to your trip to Brazil, it sounds like a lovely place to visit. Though just listening to you describe it, I can feel how warm it is.

Sux that you weren't able to reschedule your flights, but what can you do right.... hope the rest of your stay goes well, be safe.

Rapier... I haven't been to Brasil myself, but I did learn a smattering of Brasillian Portugues while dating a Brasillian-born Australian. You are right! It's a beautiful language... so musical.

Thanks for all the updates! It's lovely to hear you are making the best of such terrible circumstances.

I hope you have arrived home safely today.

Yes, I'm home safe and sound. We dropped Jim off and Connie and I went to take the remains to the mortuary that will be handling some of the arrangements. Since then, I've been trying to catch up on things.

My daughter has arranged a service for 11 a.m. Friday, Kent, WA, River of Life Church, in case any of you are close enough to stop in.

We'll be working on details and preparations tomorrow, and possibly a couple media interviews. There are some unfounded stories floating around currently, so I'd like to get some strait details out there.

I'm hoping that I can get back to a normal routine Monday.

Well, as normal as it gets around here.

Thanks for the flowers!

Well, we had the memorial service yesterday and there was more than 700 people there. Almost all the media outlets covered it.

The problems I feared never materialized, at least not overtly. So, things went well and we feel like some closure has been accomplished.

Now, we will focus on my daughter having a baby.

Again, thanks for the support, prayers, kind thoughts and flowers. All were appreciated.
