A very interesting post. I am in UK and here Middle Class is more, I would say, a collection of mores rather than economic factors. I rent but both myself and wife went to university, consider dinner parties a better option than a drinking party, get annoyed (but do nothing) about antisocial behaviour, believe we can all live in harmony but realise everyone must work much harder to make that happen, find racist/sexist language intolerable ( but rarely challenge examples), consider our world view the best, believe that our utlandish behaviour is somehow an ironic comment on a post industrial culture whereas anyone else's is just outlandish, wish people would use fewer rather than less with quantifiable things, are intent on disappearing up our own arseholes... etc.
As for the US don't know.
