I'm just learning Linux, tho I am otherwise a pretty good computer techie.

My current "project" is to write an article called "How to boot Windows" or "If I have Ubuntu, why would I want Windows?"

The point of this article would be that at least some specific distros and sharable features of Linux are now (late 2006) getting to the point where, with a good "getting started" guide, I say many Windows users can reasonably kick the Windows habit and be better off in Linux.

The remaining hurdles, AFAIK, include the horrible problems with changing monitors and video cards, and getting the screen resolution and scan rate options properly presented to the user, and file and print sharing with other machines on the LAN. There may be one or two other hurdles, but once I learn these two, I will start writing and trying to help others, while I still remember how hard it was for me.

This is my third serious attempt to make the switch myself, and to help my friends and family do likewise, since early 2005. I've tried and been beaten by the complexities, obscurities, and idiosyncrasies of Debian and SuSE,

I hope to learn a lot in this forum, and I plan to post a few criticisms, which I hope will be recognized as attempts to help, on posts that seem to me not to work as described. I hope to be treated as a contributor, well-meaning, and imperfect but honestly trying to do what's best.
